Propagating a Monstera

Propagating a Monstera.Today we are going to talk about propagating a Monstera and pretty much everything you need to know about this propagation.

Where to cut and how to propagate in water

First thing is to find an aerial root of where you want to cut, you have to cut half an inch to an inch just below aerial root, the reason for cut it blow aerial root is roots are going to grow from that aria when you plant then in water.

Propagating a Monstera

When cutting use sharp and clean razor or knife to avoid any un wanted infections.

Once you cut it the next thing is, you need to get a see-through container and put some water in it, you can use tap water too.

Pay attention to the amount of water you use, basically aerial root of the plant should be submerged in water.

The next is light, you need to put it where it gets lots of bright and indirect light. The reason for indirect sunlight is because of too much heat from the sunlight plant will start to burn slowly and once it happened there is no way back.

Bright indirect sunlight is necessary because that is what will help to grow the roots faster. You can basically put it some feet away from your window where it can get lots of bright light and if direct sunlight hits it in early morning, don’t mind it will not do any damage to the plant.

Keep an eye on water because it will evaporate so make sure it is well topped up the aerial root, and aerial root doesn’t go above the water.

The time of changing the water is up to you, but it is better to change it when you see water is getting dirty and there are things hanging around the ridge, so you have to remove the cutting put it under running water to wash away any dirt, change the water and put it back in.

When to move Monstera from water to soil?

You will see that roots are start to form anywhere between 5 to 14 days, the time actually depends of how much light it gets.

The best time to move it from water to soil is when roots are about 2 to 4 inches long.

Well let`s get to plant it in soil, first you need to find a container that is large and deep to make sure roots have room to grow but not so much big and make sure your container has proper drainage holes in them.
